Submission Guide


Aorta loves your submissions!

We at Aorta are eager to publish established and emerging artists and writers alike. Don’t shy away if your art is difficult, political, subversive or sexual in content; we love challenging artwork and we want to create a space where we are free to show it. It’s about time we see something controversial in a magazine.

If you are a visual, literary, or performance artist and are interested in being featured in an upcoming issue, please carefully read and follow the submission guidelines:

Writing Submissions

Aorta is interested in publishing the following types of writing (& more!):

-analytic essays on feminist/ queer/ gender and art theory and all the intersections between them
-creative reviews and responses to art
-fiction, prose, poetry, and creative non-fiction

Submit works up to 4,000 words or up to 5 poems. Excerpts from longer pieces are also accepted.

All work should be edited and pasted into the body of an email and sent to edits [at] aortamagazine . com
Please include a short, 3-5 sentence bio and your contact information.
If applicable please include your website, and any information regarding the previous or future publishing of the submitted piece.

Visual Art/Performance/Film:

All visual art submissions should include:

a link to or attachments of 5 – 10 images of your work
an artist’s statement and description of your work
a short, 3 – 5 sentence bio and your contact information
